Classwork

In Language arts they were introduced to the spelling words for L-10 and the vocabulary words.
We also reviewed some grammar skills in class.

In Math we reviewed elapsed time as the students are having a hard time with it. Parents please practice elapsed time with your kids.

For Science, they learned about the sun, moon and the earth. 

En artes de la lengua fueron introducidos a las palabras del deletreo para L-10 y las palabras del vocabulario.


También repasamos algunas habilidades de la gramática en clase.

En matemáticas repasamos tiempo transcurrido pues los estudiantes están teniendo un rato duro con ella. Los padres satisfacen tiempo transcurrido de la práctica con sus cabritos.

Para la ciencia, aprendieron sobre el sol, la luna y la tierra.

Classwork

In Language Arts they learned to express their idea about color by using varied and vivid words. They wrote a poem on color using their five sense.

They took a test for L-9- Spelling, vocabulary,grammar and comprehension skills.

During our Math period we had kids from our primary grades present a readers theatre on Thanksgiving. The kids enjoyed it. Therefore for Math they just reviewed elapsed time.

For Social studies they read about the First Thanksgiving. We answered some questions and came up with some cause and effect statements.

Classwork

In L.Arts students read about Johnny Appleseed. They then found the 'ten dollar'words that were important in the story. They had to find the main idea and list two important details from the story. They will complete the summarize part in class or as homework depending upon the time factor.

Writing- They read about "Unlocking the secrets of Dolphin communication"

Math - We completed the final steps of the Tims LAB method. We graphed the data and analyzed it.

S.Studies- They read and learned about recycling

Classwork

In Langauge Arts we did our oral drilling as we do in the morning.Then we worked in groups on our centers

In Math we worked on the TIMS Lab. We are trying to investigate which paper is the 'better picker upper' Students reviewed the TIMS lab steps. Then they worked on identifying the variables, drawing pictures and conducting the excperiment. We were also able to complete the data table and find the median.

In S. Studies we reviewed the vocabulary words and they learned about natural resources- L3.

Reminder!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have given you the reading log for two weeks this time as next week we will be celebrating Thanksgiving and there is no school on Thursday-i.e.11/26/09, and Friday-11/27/09. So please take care of it for two weeks and return them on December 3, 2009.


Practice skip counting 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, and 6s.
We will continue having a quick 5 minute drill everyday for them!!!!!!!!!!!

Write the spelling words in alphabetical order

Math- DPP- H,I,I,J,and L
They will trace their hand on to a grid paper. They will then find the area of their hand in sq. cm. Then as a class we will see who has the biggest hand and who has the smallest hand in our class? Have fun doing this!

S.Studies- They will complete the learning log.

Do not forget to complete the reading log.

Classwork

In Language arts. Students did their morning activity and then worked on their centers. As a whole group we discussed the singular and plural nouns.

For their writing we reviewed alphabetical order. Most of the students did not get the alphabetical order which was in their Tic Tac Toe activity. Mainly because most of them began with the same consonant blends. We went over the whole thing all over again. Students came up with their own ideas how to delete the common ones in each of them and to look for the next first letter.

In Math they worked on Boo the Blob. They learned about median and worked in groups to find out the area of each of the other shapes of Boo. It was interesting to know that each group had more or less similar areas for the different shapes of Boo.They learned that even though the shapes are different they can have the same area.

S.studies- We reviewed the vocabulary. Students will work on the learning logs to complete the definitions and draw a picture related to each of them

In Language Arts we worked on our centers
Listening center-Students work on our level reading books and answer
questions after listening to the story

Work works center- Students work on a game called 'Vocabulary
Showdown'. It is game based on our current vocabulary words for
L- 9 from our reading books

Spelling Center- Students work on a spelling game' Spelling spinner-
spelling words from l-9

Fluency- Students practice fluency by reading to each other and
finally taking a test to see how many correct words we read per
minute. They also get to do independent reading

Computer center- Students work on the computer playing games- Spelling
city,vocabulary, or grammar games

Reading Center- Students read leveled books. They take turns reading each page. Then they ask questions using the bookmark. Finally they answer questions at the end of the story.

Math- The students had a hard time finding the area of shapes- regular and
irregular shapes. So we went over it again.Then we worked on boo the blob.
However we could not finish it.We only traced the figure of Boo and the
other three shapes.

S. Studies- we reviewed the vocabulary words learned so far. Then we conducted an experiment on erosion. Finally we wrote them in our learning logs.

L. Arts- Tic Tac Toe Activity # 9 Pick the second activity
Complete the practice book pg 70
Review the vocabulary words by working on the vocabulary organizer. They
will write the vocabulary word, its definition, and a picture.

Math- DAB pg 87

S. Studies- Write a paragraph explaining the three different ways erosion can take place and explain how erosion can affect the land.

Classwork

In Language Arts we read L-9 Stone Soup. We discussed the genre- folk tale, setting, characters, and the problem. Students took turns asking questions using the book mark.

In writing Ms Walls the literacy coach taught them extended response. They discussed and completed the organizer. Finally they wrote the completed final draft on a ruled paper.

In Math they were introduced to Area. They worked on page 58-59 Student edition They learned how to find the area by counting the completed squares and then the incomplete squares.

In S. Studies they read pgs 32-33 about wind and erosion and wrote the vocabulary words in their learning logs

Classwork

In L .Arts, we discussed the spelling words for L-9- consonant blend, the new vocabulary words were discussed in context with the lesson titled- Foods of China


In Math- We continued learning about elapsed time. We did several examples in class and then took a test on Time and elapsed time.

In S. Studies they read about Central United States, Mississipi River and Great Lakes. They started working on the physcial map of United States in their reading log

Classwork

L.Arts -They reviewed spelling and vocabulary words. Then they worked on an extended response question for l-7. We used an organizer and worked on it together as a whole class.

Later we took the test for L-8 spelling, vocabulary, grammar, and reading comprehension.

In Math they learned about elapsed time. Practice telling time and finding out elapsed time at home with a sibling,parents or any elders at home.

In S. Studies we discussed about major physical regions and major landforms and bodies of water of the United States.

Homework

L.Arts- Complete the final draft for Aero and Officer Mike- Extended response.
Book report- Students will write a paragraph about a book that they have
read.

Math- Complete page 56 from student edition of Math Trailblazers- Time problems
Review worksheet for Time elapsed.

S.Studies- Read pages 36 to 41- Our country's geography
They will also review pages 32 to 35.

L.Arts- Complete the speling Tic Tac Toe Activity for L-8- the third activity
Practice book- pg 66,67,68
Complete the vocabulary activity. For each vocabulary word in L-8 they will
write the meaning, make a sentence, and draw a picture. This will help them
remember the vocabulary words in context. It will also help them for the

They learned about abbreviation and did some practice on it.

S.Studies- Students made a data table for the average climate for Chicago during
October. They plotted them on a graph and analyzed it.
