Exciting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Today we took a test on L-11 in the morning for spelling, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and grammar. Then we watched two movies in the auditorium. Finally we started working on our art projects- making ornaments- angel and a snowman.
No homework today and tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Homework
Complete pages 6 to 10 for Language Arts. Please make sure your child is reading the story well. As we were checking in class many kids got wrong. So please make sure they read twice before answering the questions.
Math- They have to do 10 rounding off numbers to the nearest tens, hundreds, and thousands.

L. Arts - We worked in our cenrters after our oral drilling in the morning.A new thing that i added for our fluency group was that after they did the fluency students would work in thier groups on a story and answer questions using the QAR strategy. I am trying this in the centers so that students would know how to elimintae the wrong answers and focus on the correct ones as they go back to check the answers.
Wrting. Students continued editing each other's papers.
Math - we reviewed their homework of rounding off to the nearest tens and hundreds. then in class I gave them a test on addition/ subtraction and rounding of to the nearest tens and hundreds. We then worked on standard, expanded, and word form. Students took a test on it. 90 % of the students aced it. Great job!!!!!!!!!!!
Science. We read pages B46- 47 about how the earth's revolution around the Sun affect the constellations that can be seen

We had an assembly in the morning brought to us by Salvation Army. Here are some pictures from the event:
Writing - we worked on editing the papers by partners.
Math - We reviewed fact family, basic addition and subtraction. later they took a test on it. They also worked on rounding off to the nearest tens and hundreds. Some of the kids were simply great!!!!!!
Then we had some fun time as it was the last day for Ms Umar -our student teacher.

I just want to say that I will miss ALL of you very much and thank you for making me feel welcome and giving me a memorable teaching experience. I learned a lot from all of you and enjoyed all of my time at Volta School. Keep working hard and continue to be a great class!!!

Math- Students took a test on subtarction using base ten shorthand and algorithm. it went great as they could check thier answers. Later they learned about rounding and estimating to the the nearest tens.
Science- Students reviewed ch-1 and then they took a test on it.

Math- I was really impressed as most of the students got elapsed time, finally!!!!!!!!!

Science- We read and learned about astronauts and importance of spacesuits, what is sun and how does it help life on earth? pages -B 21 to B23

Classwork
For Language Arts we worked on fluency after doing our morning activity. Students participated in the readers' theatre thereby practicing fluency. It was great to see how they actively got involved in the lesson by having different expression as they read "The case of the three bears breakfast".
Ms Walls worked with the students by reading the article on "Unlocking the secrets of dolphin communication". Students then worked on 'word sort'- categorizing the new 'ten dollar words'.
For Math, we worked on area using base ten pieces. Students worked in groups of 3s as they traced a sweater onto the butcher paper. They then figured the area using base ten pieces. It took our Science period alongwith it as I wanted the students to figure how to come up with the area using a shorter method, to calculate the total area by adding all the hundreds, tens and ones, and labeling it correctly.

In Language Arts they learned to express their idea about color by using varied and vivid words. They wrote a poem on color using their five sense.
They took a test for L-9- Spelling, vocabulary,grammar and comprehension skills.
During our Math period we had kids from our primary grades present a readers theatre on Thanksgiving. The kids enjoyed it. Therefore for Math they just reviewed elapsed time.
For Social studies they read about the First Thanksgiving. We answered some questions and came up with some cause and effect statements.

Then they worked on identifying the variables, drawing pictures and conducting the excperiment. We were also able to complete the data table and find the median.

Read L-8 How animals talk. Practiced retelling in chunks to
understand and comprehend important information
Writing- Ms Walls the literacy coach read "The owl and their homes"
She discussed the "ten dollar" words and thier meanings asking the students
to decipher the meaning using contextual clues. Next Tuesday, the students
will work on an extended response prompt given by her.
Math- Reviewed addition using the shorthand method.
They took a test on 'Fewest pieces rule' and addition using shorthand
S.Studies- Students continued working on the map of US coloring using the map key
Read and Relax- Students in the Thursday and Friday table were given the
assessment.
